What made you decide to become a surveyor?

After many years of watching property programs such as Grand Designs I developed an interest in architecture and property renovations and I knew that I wanted to work in the property industry. I formerly worked for a Housing Association and worked alongside Chartered Surveyors who regularly conducted valuations and building surveys on behalf of the organisation. I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with the surveyors on their visits and it became very apparent that this was the job for me! I then embarked on obtaining my Diploma in Residential Surveying with the University College of Estate Management and gained entry to the RICS as an Associate member. To this date I have never looked back.

What is your favourite part about being a surveyor?

I have very quickly learnt that every property is different, from various construction types to architecture. Every property is a mystery until I step through the front door. No day is the same and it is wonderful to not only see properties with potential, but properties where that potential has been realised and a truly wonderful home has been created.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Norwich and have lived here my entire life. I grew up in the small village of Spixworth on the outskirts of Norwich and I have since moved into the Norwich suburb Thorpe St Andrew with my family.

When you were a child, what was your dream job?

Growing up, I never shared the enthusiasm many others had of being footballers and celebrities. As a young child I decided that one day I wanted to become the Prime Minister of the UK. In hindsight, I’ve realised that sometimes chasing your childhood dreams is maybe not the best idea!

If you were going out on a Friday night, where would you go?

If heading out on Friday I will often head to Norwich as it has many wonderful independent restaurants and public houses which serve a mixture of amazing local cuisine/ales and international foods.

Tell us a bit about Norfolk

Norfolk is a large low lying and very flat county and boasts a wonderful mixture of market towns, coastal villages and rural scenery. At the heart of Norfolk is the city of Norwich which straddles the River Wensum and boasts many historic landmarks. Norwich Cathedral dates to around 1145AD and Norwich Castle which was built in 1220AD as a result of the Norman Conquest.

The city has many shops and has a lively nightlife with pubs, clubs and bars. The north of the county benefits from a wonderful coastline with many small market towns such as Burnham Market, Wells Next the Sea, Cromer and Sheringham which is host to many small hotels and businesses. The Broads National Park is located to the east of Norwich which consists of a network of small water ways which is incredibly popular for holiday makers and day visitors. Throughout the year, Norfolk attracts many tourists and therefore demand for holiday lets in North Norfolk and around the Broads National Park is very high. At the most easterly point of the county is Great Yarmouth which is also a popular holiday destination with an expansive beach and many family friendly attractions.
